A baby and two other persons were crushed to death on Thursday at Oteri on the Papalanto-Ilaro highway by an articulated lorry loaded with cement.
The vehicle, with registration number JGW XB 14 XG, was said to be coming from the cement plant at Ibese in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to an eyewitness account, the articulated lorry rammed into an oncoming Mazda with registration number OG 07 LAR, instanly killing the three occupants of the car.
It was gathered that the driver of the lorry bolted after the incident for fear of being lynched by irate mob.
His action infuriated youths in the area who attempted to set the lorry ablaze, but the prompt intervention of security operatives prevented them for carrying out the action.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the deceased were unknown while their remains had been deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro.
The cement-laden trailer belonging to the Dangote Group rammed into a vehicle in Ogun State
Days after the commissioning of the new Dangote Cement Plant at Ibese, a cement-laden trailer owned by the Dangote Group of Companies, on Saturday, crushed three people to death at Oteri, along Papalanto-Ilaro road in Ogun State.
According to eyewitnesses, the trailer, with registration number JGW XB 14 XG, was coming from the new Cement Plant where it had loaded cement products. The driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into an on-coming Mazda with registration number OG 07 LAR.
The three occupants of the car, including a baby, died upon impact. The truck driver, however, fled the scene.
Youths at the scene who were enraged and tried to burn the trailer were stopped by security operatives.
The corpses of the yet-to-be identified deceased persons were deposited at the General Hospital Mortuary in Ilaro.
